The Story So Far…

Autumn 2023 – it was agreed at a meeting of the Caerleon Civic Society that a small working group would explore the possibility of getting a train station for Caerleon, our previous one having been closed since 1962.

25 November 2023 – a public meeting was held in Caerleon Town Hall to establish if there was support in the wider community for a new station. The meeting was very well attended and we agreed to move forward with the project.

9 December – we had a stall at the Christmas Craft and Food Market at the Town Hall where attendees were invited to ‘vote’ for or against a new station. The outcome was overwhelmingly positive.

27 January 2024 – we had our inaugural meeting attended by Ruth Jones MP and Natasha Asghar MS. During the meeting we recruited a group of volunteers, discussed a draft Constitution and confirmed temporary Officers in post for the organisation of the group.

It was agreed that monthly committee/working party meetings will be held to progress work on our objective to re-open a railway station in Caerleon.

Suggestions for the group name were put forward and a vote taken with the name TRACS (Towards Restoring a Caerleon Station) chosen.

1 February – article about the inaugural meeting was published in The South Wales Argus.

7 March – Natasha Asghar mentions the formation of TRACS in an address to the Senedd about increasing public transport options.

June 2024 – first TRACS AGM to be held.
